One of my favorite things about India is their
tradition and art of “Mehandi” which consist in painting beautiful designs in ladies’
hands and feet with Henna Ink. Apart from the traditional ink they also sell
today readymade Henna Tattoos that will transfer the design to the skin as a regular
non permanent tattoo would do. Today I
share with you one project I made using Mehandi Tattoos, here it is:
This project was very easy and using only with basic
materials as paint, tattoos and varnish. It was for one of my cousins who does this art and I
took the box to a local artist to write down her name in the Hindi language.
I painted the base of the box with acrylic purple
color shades; once it was dry I applied the tattoos to different areas of the
box and let it dry. Then the local artist
drew very beautifully her name on the box and I proceeded with the layers of
varnish.
The box was originally a “Panama Hat” Box that I had bought at a local handicraft store and decided to give a makeover.
With this box I learned how easy it is to apply simple tattoos to more than just our skin and it works out perfectly.
I hope you liked this project and for Free Vintage

It looks gorgeous. It looks like a thoughtful gift.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful box and we are going to be studying India soon, so we may have to do this for a school project. It would be great if you linked up with Hobbies and Handicrafts.

Just gorgeous! I always saw those mehendi stickers for temp tattoos and wondered if they could be used in crafts. Here you are doing exactly that, your box is just gorgeous! Thanks for the inspiration. PS: If I may, I just want to clarify that Mehendi art on the skin is not with ink. It's mehendi plant leaves dried/crushed and made into paste. Now this paste is sold in cones with a fine tip so you can apply very intricate designs on your arms/palms/feet etc.
ReplyDeleteHi rk, thank you very much for your sweet comment, I am glad you liked the box, thank you also to clarify the Mehandi Ink, I know it is from the Henna Plant and they sell it in long tubes ready to be used, just that it was easier for me to speak of ink. Have a wonderful day. Erika.
