I started working this past weekend (a little bit
late, I must admit) on some DIY decoration projects for the Holidays and the
first one I wanted to do was some lettering décor for the wall. Here it is:
It says “Merry Christmas” in Spanish and I used simple
letters made out of cardboard 8 ½ x 11” pages and I decorated them with
different Christmas theme figurines. Here are some close ups:
It was a very easy project that can be made in one
morning, all it takes is finding the images we want to use, printing them, a
little bit of paint and glue and more glue.
To do this project you will need:
The steps are:
Materials
- Letter Templates
- Cardboard
- Dark Red & White Acrylic Paints
- Different images of Angels, Santa’s and other Christmas related graphics
- Scissors & Brush
- Hot Glue Gun & Glue
- Mounting Tape
- Thread (optional if you want to hang it as a garland)
The steps are:
1. Use your
computer to select in a Word Document or a Photo Editing Program the letter
type you will be using and the size you want it to be for your message. Print them onto cardboard & cut the
shapes of the letters.
2. Paint the
letters with the dark red acrylic color and draw non consecutive small lines
around the edges of each letter. This
will give a better shape definition to the letters against the wall.
3. Print all
the different images you have selected into cardboard twice, meaning that you
will print two of each image. Cut them
out.
4. Proceed to
mount one image on top of the other using mounting tape. This will create a certain dimension to the
images.
5. Plan the
distribution of the images around the letters and once you have decided start gluing
with Hot Glue.
6. Once all the
images are properly glued, stick the letters to the wall with more mountain
tape or another type of tape you have in hand, then sit and enjoy your
decoration.
You can also add some more decorative elements to the
wall if you want. I tried it as well on
one green wall I have at home, and it looked very colorful.
