Old Airplanes Tin Box

Another project I prepared for my family members in my visit to India is a Tin box for my nephew with Old Russian Airplanes Illustrations, here is the final result:

The tin box is a simple plain Geometry Set, and to decorate it I choose the Old Russian Airplanes images I posted sometime ago.  If you would like to use the same images, click here.

The process is very simple and you can try it at home.  I started by giving the tin box 2-3 coats of liquid gesso and let it dry.

In the meantime I printed the images and sealed them with a fixative in spray to prevent the ink from running and let them dry according to the instructions.

Next step was to paint a sky background for the airplanes, I hand painted one as much as I could because I am not really good in drawing or painting.

Once the background was dry, I glued the images to the surface with Mod Podge and when this glue was dry I gave it 2 coats of water-base clear varnish.  The interior of the tin box was left untouched.

I painted then the downside of the box in a dark red color.

As a final decorative touch, I hot glued one old airplane pin from the ex Soviet Union that I had inherited from my mom long time ago and it was perfect for it.    This box was really easy to make and I enjoyed it very much as well as my nephew.   My next project for him will be a “Hulk” big box to keep his hot wheel's car collection.
