For some of our projects we look around in the house for objects that we
can transform, redecorate and update. That’s
the case of this rustic mug that looks very much like a beer one and that I
thought I would try to enhance a little bit.
This is the result:
I have collected some coasters from various Pubs of Great Britain and one
in particular was the perfect choice for this project.
The coaster had a different image on each side, so I decided to use both.
For a final touch, I painted by hand (also in a rustic way) a small branch with leaves in some
parts of the border of the images.
In this project I used the mug, sanding paper, liquid gesso, acrylic paints in orange, copper and black, brushes, scissors, mod podge and the printed images. As a first step I sanded the mug and then applied two coats of liquid gesso.
Next step is painting the mug with the chosen colors; I painted a base
of orange and then added touches of copper.
As the images were part of the coaster, I made photocopies and then cut them. Then, glued them to the mug with Mod Podge and let it
dry. (I’m sorry I do not have pictures for that). Next step was painting a branch with leaves
in black color around the images and also I painted one in the handle.
Once all is dry, I applied two coats of Mod Podge to protect it and viola!
the project is finished. Note:
This mug is for decorative purposes only; it should not be used as a
real beer container.
In just few steps the mug is now updated and looking charming, it would go perfect on a bar corner in the house right?
