If we think
of the traffic today on the rush hour in our city we imagine the modern era
cars, motorcycles, bicycles, the red light, the noise, the horns, the people
crossing and the traffic police, right?
Now let’s think about the same rush
hour but two centuries ago back in the 1800's, how would it look like? That's
what I did and I pictured this:
Nice and
elegant horse-driven carriages, fancy bicycles, people in formal wear and of course a
much more smooth traffic.
The box was a
very old tobacco box I had and it needed some repair but unfortunately I do not
have pictures of the box before. Basically I repaired it, painted the inside and
outside in black color, the lid top in golden brown color to imitate the sepia color of an old picture and then decoupage the
images. For the standard decoupage process we follow, please click here.
I enjoyed putting this box together and when I planned it, I wanted to do it suitable for a father's day gift, so I chose the colors and the images according to that.
I think dad would love this gift and even more accompanying it with an old style watch and a greeting card. I am going to make a nice card and will show it to you very soon.
Besides the
main scene on the lid I also decorated the box with labels of services offered in town, like
carriage services and a Hotel.
The inside of
the box had an old fabric, so I replaced with a new one, in same black
color.
I got the
images from my Dover Publication books, the carriages, the people and the bicycle from
an early advertisement’s book and the block of buildings from another book of
Architecture and they were all painted in the same color as the background to
trick the eye.
On this
decoupage project we used the traditional procedure we follow in our workshop,
and you can read it here. The basic materials are the wood box, the vintage prints, acrylic colors, glue and varnish, varnish & more varnish.
I would have loved to live in a town like this back in those days, I would have gone crazy shopping in all the stores from those buildings behind and wear those beautiful long dresses the ladies used to wear. Oh I love the fashion of those days. What do you think?
But this one is a box for dad. Very masculine, no Ladies' dresses on it. hehehe.
Every
week we have the honor and pleasure to participate and share our projects in
awesome parties, please visit them and see what talented artists and crafters
are creating. They are not in a

Where in the world do you find all your beautiful old pieces to make your boxes? I'm never sure where to look for them except of Graphics Fairy.com? Are there other websites who have the old free graphics? I love each and every work I have seen.
