The
International Mother’s day is now around the corner, but we in Panama celebrate
it in the month of December.
However, I worked over the weekend on a project that I had in mind for a great gift
on mother’s day. A surprise themed box
filled with some beauty & spa gift set:
This project
is easy and quick to make, and a very good idea if you have your gift ready but no wrapping or no special way to pack it and you are running out of time. You can do it yourself last minute, it will be unique and special but most of all mom will love
it.
But even if your gift is not related to
beauty spa or perfumes, you can change the themed images according to your
gift. I recycled one cardboard box I had.

This
decoupage project was made using the wonderful and versatile ModPodge. The materials you need are:
Materials:
- Cardboard box or container that you want to recycle
- Background papers
- Images of vintage perfume advertisements
- Acrylic black paint (*optional, in case it is needed to paint the inside of the box)
- ModPodge
- Scissors & brushes
- Rubber or clear stamps & ink (*optional)
Step by Step:
1. Prepare the
surface of the box or container, if it has previous paper glued, remove it
completely.
2. If the inside of the container or box has a color that won't match the design, paint it with acrylic black paint or other color that will go with your design. As it is cardboard it will dry very fast.
3. Print the background papers and images and seal them with a fixative spray. Let them dry.
4. Cut the papers and the vintage perfume images. For this project I chose two papers, a vintage handwritten letter and a vintage newspaper print. The perfume images are taken from one of my Dover Publication books "The Art of Perfume"
5. Glue the background papers to the box with ModPodge, at the moment apply it on the back of the images (not the front). Once all the background papers are glued, proceed in the same way with the vintage perfume images around the box according to your design.
6. Now play around with your vintage stamps and apply them in different places of the box to enhance the look. As it is paper the ink will dry quickly, but let it rest for few minutes.
7. The hard work is done now and the final step is to give the whole box 2 layers of ModPodge to seal it and protect it.
I am sure any
mom would love to receive her gift on a box done by ourselves, am I right?.
