One day I was
searching for a hair brush in my mom’s drawer and I found one old small round jewelry
box she bought on a trip she made to Costa Rica many years ago. I saw it before but just now it caught up my
attention. It was still in good
condition but definitely needed a renovation.
I borrowed it and soon started working on it, here is the final result.
There was
originally a rural town painted on the lid, but I sanded it down until it
was removed. For the full tutorial on the standard decoupage we do, please click here.
Here it is the before & after.
On this particular decoupage piece I did not use stamps, but only decorated it with one horizontal section of painted red dots in different sizes with an stencil I had, and chose the red color to match the vivid shades of the image.

Excluding the stamps, which is an optional step, the techniques used on this jewelry box, from the preparation of the surface to the
finish, are the same as the standard step by step we use for our decoupage
projects, and you can read here.
The turquoise was the first choice for the round box color, as it would create a good contrast with the image, and there were anyway some turquoise shades already in the image.
For the final touch, I painted a border on golden color on top and the bottom of the round box and gave just some brushes to the lid, to make it shiny.
Then I protected the work with layers of water-base polyurethane.
I think it turned out to be a good and beautiful update, and my mom loved it. What do you think?.
